EAGLES 48 – BEES 45

ELITE LEAGUE MATCH : SATURDAY 5th MAY 2012

Simon GustafssonSimon Gustafsson proved to be a last heat hero as the Eastbourne ‘Lifestyle’ Eagles held on to secure a vital 48-45 victory over the highly rated Coventry Bees at Arlington stadium on Saturday evening.
Just three-points (45-42) separated the two sides with four laps of racing remaining and with former Eastbourne duo Scott Nicholls and Edward Kennett in lining up opposition to the Swede along with Bridger in the final race the very real chance remained that the Bees, having clawed their way back from a 10-point 35-25 deficit after heat 10 courtesy of a Kennett inspired 8-1 in the eleventh could complete the job and snatch a last gasp win.
The Swede kept a cool head however, making the best of starts off of the favoured inside gate and he led every step of the way to deny both Kennett and Nicholls, the latter having dropped a single point to that stage in a most impressive Arlington return.

 EAGLES 54 – WOLVES 38

ELITE LEAGUE MATCH : SATURDAY 14th APRIL 2012

LahtiEastbourne ‘Lifestyle’ Eagles bounced back to their winning ways at Arlington stadium on Saturday evening courtesy of a confidence boosting 54-38 success over Midland Rivals, the Wolverhampton Wolves.
While the Sussex outfit could be classed as the walking wounded heading into the clash, Coventry’s Edward Kennett deputising in place of the sidelined Joonas Kylmakorpi while the Eagles utilised the Rider Replacement facility for Simon Gustafsson who was injured while riding for a team place in Poland two days earlier, it was the visitors who effectively limped out of the contest with no fewer than three Wolverhampton riders failing to complete the fixture.
Ty Proctor withdrew from the meeting, suffering with suspected concussion following not one but two falls in race three and then both Ricky Wells and Pontus Aspgren were destined to take no further part after they tangled with each other, in alarming fashion in heat eight, the former sustaining a possible broken thumb.
In contrast to their previous home meeting when the visiting Lakeside Hammers opened with four consecutive 5-1’s, it was the Eagles who hit the ground running with no fewer than six heat advantages in the first eight races, this including four maximums in heats four and six through eight to go 20-points to the good, 34-14 by the mid way stage.

EAGLES 49 - STARS 41

ELITE LEAGUE MATCH : MONDAY 2nd APRIL 2012

bridger1Eastbourne ‘Lifestyle’ Eagles bounced back in determined fashion to secure all three Elite League points from under the very noses of the visiting King’s Lynn Stars in a hotly contested Arlington encounter in front of the SKY Sports cameras on Monday evening.

From the outset, the signs appeared bleak for the home side as once again Eastbourne’s frailties away from the starting tapes, so cruelly exposed in Norfolk five days earlier were evident for all to see as time and again the Eagles riders played follow my leader into the first turn.

Just as they had at Saddlebow Road, the Stars provided the first man home in heats one through five, a brace of 5-1’s earning the visitors a deserved 19-11 at that point.
